The Lord’s Test between India and England unfolded like a gripping drama, with momentum swinging back and forth until the very end. India, chasing 204 for victory, found themselves on the brink of defeat at 181 for 9. But Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj stitched together a fighting 23-run partnership, keeping hope alive.
Just when it seemed India might pull off a miracle, Shoaib Bashir produced a stunning delivery that rattled Siraj’s stumps, sealing a thrilling 22-run win for England. But the joy was short-lived for the young spinner. Shortly after his match-winning moment, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Bashir had fractured a finger on his left hand and would miss the remainder of the series.

In an official statement, the ECB said, “Shoaib Bashir has suffered a fracture to his left index finger while fielding during the Lord’s Test. He will undergo surgery later this week and will not be available for the final two Tests against India. The squad for the Manchester Test will be announced soon.”
Despite the injury, Bashir had not only continued to bowl but also came out to bat, showing remarkable grit. He scored just 2 off 9 balls, but his courage left an impression on captain Ben Stokes. “It’s really tough news for Bashir and the whole team. He’s just 21, and it’s a serious break. But even injured, he padded up and went out without being asked. That says everything about his character,” said Stokes.
With the win, England now lead the five-match series 2-1. The pace attack dominated at Lord’s, with Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root making vital contributions. Bashir, however, delivered the final blow, claiming the last wicket of the match and finishing with figures of 1 for 6 in 5.5 overs in the second innings.
The fourth Test will begin in Manchester on July 23, followed by the fifth and final Test at The Oval on July 31. The ECB has yet to name a replacement for Bashir.
