Aminul Islam Bulbul Elected Unopposed as New BCB President

It had long been anticipated that Aminul Islam Bulbul, the former national cricketer and respected administrator, would be elected as the 20th president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). His election was seen as a unifying choice among the board’s directors, and that prediction came true when no one contested against him. Bulbul was officially elected unopposed, with the full consent and support of all the board members, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh cricket administration.

Aminul Islam Bulbul, a former Bangladesh Test captain and one of the country’s early cricketing icons, has been closely involved in cricket development over the years both as a player and as a mentor. His elevation to the presidency reflects a broad consensus among BCB members that his leadership, international experience, and calm demeanor can help guide the board into a more stable and transparent era.

Meanwhile, there was also no contest for the vice-presidential positions. Faruk Ahmed, another former Bangladesh captain known for his strong leadership qualities, and Sakhawat Hossain, the representative from the Barisal division, were both unanimously elected as vice-presidents. Their selection demonstrates the board’s effort to balance experience and regional representation within its top leadership.

Earlier speculation suggested that Nazmul Abedin Fahim, a renowned cricket coach and development specialist, might be appointed as one of the vice-presidents alongside Faruk Ahmed. However, Fahim ultimately opted not to pursue the role, citing personal reasons and a desire to focus on grassroots cricket development.

The official results were declared by Chief Election Commissioner Mohammad Hossain at 8:15 PM on Monday, formally confirming the unopposed elections.

With Aminul Islam Bulbul now at the helm, the new BCB leadership faces several important tasks ahead — from restructuring domestic cricket, improving player welfare, and enhancing the transparency of board operations, to strengthening Bangladesh’s performance on the global stage. Many in the cricketing community see this new leadership as an opportunity to bring unity, vision, and professionalism back to the board.
