Pat Cummins and Travis Head, who represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), continue to be regulars in international cricket, regularly playing for the Australian national team. However, the IPL franchise offered them a break from international duties.
Pat Cummins was purchased by Hyderabad for Rs 20.5 crore in the 2024 auction, having been retained for Rs 18 crore the previous year. Head was bought for Rs 6.8 crore and retained for Rs 14 crore last time. Hyderabad proposed paying the pair Rs 58 crore annually, on the condition that they play not only in the IPL but also for the team’s squads in other T20 leagues around the world.

According to Australia’s ‘The Age,’ Sunrisers Hyderabad set a condition requiring Pat Cummins and Travis Head to stop representing Australia internationally and commit to playing year-round in various franchise leagues. Both players have rejected this offer, emphasizing that representing their country remains their top priority.
Looking ahead, there is a possibility that Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) will move towards privatization, which could lead to significant investment in teams and increased player salaries. This shift may attract more top cricketers to the BBL. Discussions on this matter are ongoing among Cricket Australia, regional bodies, and the players’ association.
