Bangladesh’s historic triumph in the ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa in February 2020 remains unforgettable. While Abhishek Das took 3 wickets in the final against India, he remained largely in the shadows. What followed for the young all-rounder was a difficult journey marked by injuries, setbacks, and unfulfilled potential. Now, after years of pain and perseverance, Abhishek is eyeing a comeback in September.
Abhishek Das
Since 2020, the Narail-born cricketer has spent more time in recovery than on the field. After returning from the World Cup, Abhishek suffered a serious injury and, despite undergoing injections and rehabilitation, struggled to return to regular cricket. Though the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) initially planned to send him to Dubai for treatment in 2021, he eventually received back treatment in India instead.

Abhishek briefly returned to action with a List A appearance on March 15, 2020, shortly after the World Cup. In 2022, he featured as a specialist batter in the Dhaka Premier League, but further injury setbacks kept him out of competitive cricket altogether.
Now, there’s hope once again. Abhishek is preparing to return to field cricket in the upcoming NCL T20 tournament this September. Speaking to Dhaka Post, he shared his optimism:
“I am much better than before. I am very healthy and can bowl. I am also emphasizing on batting. I will play as an all-rounder.”
His resilience and determination could finally see him reclaim his place on the field and rewrite a story that began with promise, but was stalled by misfortune.
