Australia bowled out South Africa for just 212 runs in the first innings of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship final. Kagiso Rabada was the standout performer for South Africa, claiming 5 wickets for 51 runs at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
Rabada received widespread praise for his fiery spell, which not only dismantled the Australian top order but also earned him a personal milestone. With this performance, Rabada surpassed the legendary Allan Donald to become South Africa’s fourth-highest wicket-taker in Test history. However, the 30-year-old fast bowler wasn’t fully satisfied with the outcome.
“212 runs we’ll take that. But we really thought we could get them out for around 160. That didn’t happen, but that’s how the game goes,” Rabada said after the day’s play.
Kagiso Rabada – 5 wickets

Australia had been struggling at 146 for 5 before all-rounder Beau Webster steadied the innings. His composed knock of 72 was crucial in taking Australia past 200.
Rabada acknowledged Webster’s resilience: “He didn’t start well at all looked like he could get out any ball. But his positive approach helped him settle and build the innings.”
It was Rabada who eventually dismissed Webster, and with that, secured his place as the fourth-highest wicket-taker for South Africa in Tests. Reflecting on the achievement, Rabada said, “It’s special to see my name among the greats. As a child, I dreamed of playing for South Africa, and now to be on a list with legends I once looked up to — that’s a proud moment. Hopefully, there’s more to come.”
Despite Rabada’s brilliance, Australia hit back with the ball. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood struck early as South Africa stumbled to 43 for 4 by stumps.
“The ball is doing quite a bit swinging and spinning. But there are still opportunities for batters if they stay patient and disciplined. We didn’t start well, being 43 for 4, but there’s a lot of cricket left. We’ll keep fighting,” Rabada concluded, expressing hope for a South African comeback.
