BCB announced Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of Bangladesh ODI team

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Mehedi Hasan Miraz as the new ODI captain, replacing Nazmul Hossain Shanto. The decision, announced through a press release on Thursday, confirms that the star all-rounder will lead the ODI side until June next year.

Miraz addressed the media in Mirpur on Friday following the announcement. When asked whether the captaincy change would affect the dressing room atmosphere, Miraz confidently dismissed any concerns. He shared that Shanto had already assured him of full support.

“I don’t think this change will impact the dressing room. At the end of the day, we all play for Bangladesh,” said the 27-year-old. “When Shanto was captain, I supported him, and now I believe he will do the same for me. Shanto told me clearly we’ll work together for the country and aim to bring Bangladesh to a better place.”

BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim explained the rationale behind the decision: “Miraz’s consistent all-round performances, his fighting spirit, and his energy on the field made him the ideal candidate to lead the side in this crucial phase. We trust in his leadership and temperament to guide the team forward.”

This change also reintroduces a three-captain system for Bangladesh across formats. Shanto remains Test captain, while Liton Das continues to lead in T20Is.

Shanto, for his part, publicly extended his best wishes to Miraz, posting on Facebook: “Good luck to you on your new path, Mehedi Miraz.”
