Rishabh Pant’s fortunes in the IPL 2025 season continue to take a downturn. On Tuesday, the Lucknow Super Giants captain played a phenomenal unbeaten knock of 118 runs off just 61 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. His innings, featuring 11 fours and 8 sixes, powered Lucknow to a massive total of 227.
However, despite his fireworks with the bat, Rishabh Pant’s efforts went in vain as Bangalore chased down the target with six wickets in hand, knocking Lucknow out of the playoffs race.
Adding to his woes, Rishabh Pant was hit with a significant penalty the following day. The star wicketkeeper-batsman has been fined ₹30 lakh for a slow over-rate his third such offense this season. According to IPL regulations, Rishabh Pant’s first and second breaches occurred on April 5 and April 26, respectively.

The IPL’s updated rules for 2025 state that while captains will be fined ₹30 lakh for a third slow over-rate offense, they will not face suspension a change from the 2024 season and earlier. However, other members of the playing XI have each been fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
Notably, Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians skipper, missed his team’s first game of the current season as he was serving a suspension under the previous over-rate rules.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win over Lucknow secured them a spot in the first qualifier. They will now face Punjab Kings in the final on Thursday.
